Pull It All Together: Sheridan’s New Binding Line
For publishers, there are many factors that go into the selection of a printer:
- Can the printer expedite orders and meet ship dates, and even handle the occasional tight deadline?
- Will the printer deliver the high quality the book requires?
- Will the printing be cost effective?
Sheridan Books understands the importance of these considerations, and stands behind our reputation of staying ahead of the curve by continually investing in new technology and equipment to meet and exceed expectations.
Our most recent investment is a new Kolbus KM600 binding line. The new line was installed at the end of May and has already improved speed by 30%. When fully utilized, it will exceed the capacity of two of our older lines.
The Kolbus KM600 is a quick-make-ready binding line that completes the full assembly process all the way to the shipping box. It can bind as many as 9,000 books an hour, automatically detects missing, double, or incorrect signatures, and automates the process of binding all the way through to packing the products for shipping.
“In this competitive market, you have to be able to provide high quality, at a competitive cost, and meet ship dates. Because the make-ready is so much faster, we have more options for quick turnaround. We are able to get our customers these products in shorter time spans,” explains Gary Elkins, Sheridan Director of Operations. “It’s all about service.”
